Stepping Up: Laura Takes on
Social Media Team Leader Role at AMI
8/11/2024
After just three months with AMI, Laura has taken on the role of Social Media Team Leader, reflecting her capability and focus in a fast-paced environment. In this interview, she discusses her initial experiences at AMI, her approach to leadership, and her strategic goals for elevating AMI’s social media presence.
Can you share a bit about your career journey and what inspired you to join AMI?
In my previous role, I felt a lack of creativity, and I knew it was time for a change. I was eager to explore more dynamic and creative opportunities, particularly in marketing and promotion. This role really appealed to me because it offered the chance to combine my passion for creativity with a deeper understanding of how marketing works within the industry. It felt like the perfect environment to grow and make a real impact.
Tell us a little bit about your history, where were you before Devon and what brought you back to the area?
Before Devon, I lived in Manchester, where I completed my studies and continued living for some time afterwards. Although I had a great experience there, circumstances ultimately brought me back here. Luckily, I found this opportunity at the perfect time – one that not only aligned with my career goals but also brought me closer to family and familiar surroundings.
What attracted you to the field of social media, and how have your previous experiences shaped your approach in this role?
My academic background in fashion promotion and video editing sparked my interest in social media. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of marketing through compelling visuals, whether it’s captivating art, graphics, or video. I love how social media blends creativity with strategy, allowing you to engage with diverse audiences in real-time. My previous experience has helped me understand how to construct messages that resonate, while also ensuring that visuals are not just eye-catching but also aligned with the brand’s core message.
In just two months, you’ve been promoted to Social Media Team Leader. What do you believe contributed to your rapid advancement?
I believe my rapid advancement comes from my commitment to continuous learning and my ability to adapt quickly. I’ve always approached challenges with a positive, proactive attitude, and I make an effort to listen, understand, and collaborate with others. By focusing on both personal growth and the success of the team, I think I’ve been able to contribute in meaningful ways, earning the trust and responsibility that comes with this role.
Outside of work, what hobbies or interests are you passionate about?
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active at the gym, crocheting, being creative, and attending music events and festivals. I also place a strong emphasis on quality time with my friends and family. I find that these activities help me recharge, stay inspired, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
What excites you most about being part of our social media leadership team, and are there any innovative ideas you’re eager to implement?
I’m excited about the opportunity to expand my knowledge and take a more strategic role in how we market content. Understanding the intricacies of how to increase exposure and engagement for our clients is something I’m passionate about. I’m particularly eager to explore new ways to enhance user interaction through innovative visual campaigns, as I believe visuals are key to creating lasting impressions on social platforms.
How do you balance creativity and strategy when engaging with our clients and their audiences on various platforms?
Creativity and strategy must work hand in hand. I believe powerful visuals are often the first thing that grabs attention, so they must be eye-catching and aligned with the brand’s identity. However, the message behind those visuals is equally important. The content should inform, engage, and entice, while clearly communicating how our client’s business can solve problems or add value to their audience’s lives. The balance lies in creating visuals that spark curiosity and ensuring the strategy behind them supports the ultimate goals of engagement and conversion.
